The MSD204 belongs to the MSD series of small four-wheel agricultural tractors. It is a four-wheel-drive, frame-chassis mini tractor built around the ZS1110NM single-cylinder diesel, a horizontal, direct-injection, water-cooled engine with a 110 mm bore and stroke and a displacement of approximately 1.093 L. Compared with the 2WD MSD240, the defining change is the 4×4 driveline: the MSD204 engages the front axle under load, converting engine torque into drawbar pull far more effectively than a rear-drive-only layout. It is aimed at smallholders, orchardists, and mixed farmers who work in conditions where traction — not engine power alone — is the limiting factor.

Four-wheel drive where it counts. Published traction research shows that a 4WD tractor can achieve 1.4 to 1.6 times the maximum drawbar pull of an equivalent 2WD machine, with maximum traction efficiency rising to around 77% versus roughly 60–67% for 2WD. In practical terms, the MSD204 keeps working in wet soil, on slopes, and with a loaded trailer where a 2WD tractor would begin to slip.

ZS1110NM single-cylinder, direct-injection diesel. The 110 mm × 115 mm bore/stroke engine displaces approximately 1.093 L and is rated at 20 hp / 14.7 kW at 2200 rpm on a 12-hour basis. It is a simple, mechanically injected, water-cooled engine designed for field-serviceable reliability and familiar operation.

6 forward + 1 reverse mechanical gearbox. The same proven shift pattern as the MSD platform, giving flexible speed selection for tillage, transport, and PTO work without electronic controls.

540 rpm PTO and category I three-point hitch. Industry-standard interfaces for rotary tillers, mowers, sprayers, and other small implements — no proprietary adapters required.

Differential lock for low-traction conditions. When one rear wheel loses grip, the differential lock ties the rear axle together; combined with 4WD, it gives the MSD204 a meaningful edge in mud, loose soil, and wet grass.

Compact four-wheel chassis with a front-drive axle. The 4WD front axle adds pulling capability without turning the MSD204 into a large tractor. It remains narrow enough for orchards, greenhouses, and inter-row work, and retains the tight turning envelope of the MSD platform.

Water-cooled thermal stability. The ZS1110NM uses a radiator-based cooling system, supporting sustained PTO work and long working days in warm conditions better than air-cooled engines of similar output.

 The versatility of the MSD204 mini tractor

The increased dead weight of the tractor, reinforced frame and drive axle enable the use of heavy attachments. Even with the maximum track width, there is no damage to the machine. The standard three-point hitch from the rear is supplemented by a front linkage, greatly enhancing the versatility of the machine. In other words, its range of application extends beyond agriculture.

Of course, with the MSD204 mini-tractor, you can perform any land farming work, and this is the main purpose. Product Usage Notes

Engage 4WD deliberately, not permanently. Four-wheel drive is a traction aid, not an all-surface default. On firm, dry ground and during tight turns, prolonged 4WD engagement increases tyre scrub, front-axle stress, and fuel consumption. Use 4WD when the surface demands it — wet soil, slopes, loose ground, heavy draft — and disengage it when traction is no longer the limiting factor.

Match front and rear tyre wear and inflation. In a 4WD tractor, the front and rear rolling circumferences are matched by design. Uneven tyre wear, mismatched inflation pressures, or fitting a different tyre size front-to-rear can cause driveline wind-up and accelerated wear. Check pressures regularly and replace tyres in axle pairs.

Use the differential lock only as needed. Engage it when one rear wheel is slipping, and disengage before turning on firm ground. Leaving it locked during normal steering loads the final drives and increases tyre scrub.

Respect PTO load limits, not just engine horsepower. The ZS1110NM is rated at 20 hp at the engine, but PTO output is lower. Compare the implement’s PTO power requirement against the tractor’s rated PTO power, not its engine rating, before buying or hitching a heavy rotary tiller or mower.

Warm up the water-cooled diesel before load. Give the engine a short low-idle warm-up, especially in cold weather, before running a PTO implement at full load.

Keep the radiator clear. Because the ZS1110NM relies on radiator cooling, clean chaff, dust, and mud from the fins before each long session and check coolant level regularly.

Inspect front axle and driveshaft guards. The 4WD front axle and front driveshaft introduce additional rotating components. Before field work, check boots, guards, and mounting bolts, and never operate with a missing or damaged driveshaft shield.
